ON BEING SINGLE…

Ramblings and thoughts about life from a single perspective

Well, it’s happened.  Last year was my 40th birthday and I figured I was just sitting ON the hill.  Yesterday I celebrated my 41st, so I think that’s it – I’ve begun the slippery descent into middle age, and I’m officially now OVER the hill. :-)

Not that I mind at all.  I LOVE being 40+.  I’m really enjoying my life, I like what I’m discovering about myself, I like the fact that I’m becoming the woman I’m meant to be, and celebrating each and every part of myself.  It’s quite liberating really, thinking that each birthday brings a new number, and new discoveries.

I had a truly wonderful day.  It started with Maccas for breakfast with the kids and G.  Then home for morning tea with a dear friend and her kids (they baked me some yummy chocolate cupcakes), off to the pool for swimming lessons for the lads (got spoilt with a lovely gift from a  friend there), home again to have some cake delivered by another dear friend which her 4 girls had baked for me, then off for dinner with another wonderful friend and her family.  I was so spoilt and felt so loved.  :-)

Mum and Dad gave me a beautiful Tedora bracelet (like Pandora, if you know those at all?) and some chocolates, and the kids bought me two charms/beads to go on the bracelet – Geordie chose a silver pig, and Bella a little pearl looking glass bead.  Angus got me a mouse pad with a gel wrist support which is sooooo comfortable.  Wish I’d bought one of those YEARS ago!  They also made me a card each, which I always tell them is THE best present I get every year, and if I got nothing else but their homemade cards, I would be a very happy Mamma!  I was also given a beautiful journal from my friend in NZ; a perpetual calendar with quotes/verses for each day of the year, a coffee mug, and chocolates; a cool oblong green dish with more chocolates (do you see a theme here??? – think I might just like chocolate??); and another cool silver bead for my bracelet.  G’s folks gave me some money for Christmas, so I decided to go and buy myself a Chamilia flexible bracelet, which is bendy solid silver and can also hold the beads/charms.  Then I had a bit of a splash out on EBay and bought HEAPS of glass beads in different colours to fill my new jewellery.  I can’t wait for them to arrive – and will post some photos of it all when they do.

I wasn’t sure how my birthday would go this year.  I knew that I didn’t particularly want to spend it with G, but in the end I asked if he would like to come out to breakfast with the kids and I and that was really lovely.  Dinner with my friends was special, and we had lots of laughs.  We ate so much food – I felt like a little pork barrel when it was time to go home.

How blessed I am to have such caring and wonderful family and friends.  Thank you to everyone who made my day special.

Here I am with the kids, just before I blew out my candles.  I forgot to mention, that Bella went to a friend’s house for a play when I took the boys to the pool, and while she was there she made me a gorgeous necklace and bracelet, which I proudly wore last night as you can see in the photo.

Here’s to a fantastic 2009 as a 41 year old!  :-)

Thanks for stopping by…

  3. Hey Babe

Happy Birthday. I didn’teven know so I feel so bad. :( Sounds like you had a great day, spent with those you love the most. Wish we were together, who knows’ maybe next year! I have a pandora bracelet and LOVE IT INTENSELY!. I have been really disciplined and only have “official” pandora charms on it, despite the cost. I will send you a pici as it is really cool. I still have bout 7-8 beads to go. Love the sound of yours however. My kids and parents etc buy me beads for pressies as well.
When I can find some energy I will email you. So much has happened and changed here. Things aren’t great , but they can only improve.
Take care my love, and enjoy being 41!
